This group of research is interested in the exploitation of the use of enzymes for the stereospecific preparation of intermediates in the synthesis of compound of pharmaceutical value. Recently we reported the use of B. stearothermophilus as catalyst in stereospecific oxidations of bicyclic octen and heptenols, reagents useful for the synthesis of many compounds with important biological roles. A crude extract of these cells was then used to catalyze both the oxidation of these bicyclic alcohols and the stereospecific reduction of the related ketones. Now we reported the purification and the partial characterization of the enzyme involved in the reactions above mentioned. It is NAD-dependent diacetyl (acetoin) reductase, indeed acetoin (acetylmethyl carbinol) is major metabolic product in some bacteria and yeast species.

Abstract
It is NAD-dependent diacetyl (acetoin) reductase, indeed acetoin (acetylmethyl carbinol) is major metabolic product in some bacteria and yeast species.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
